Illustrating a Van Gogh post impressionist masterpiece for JetBlue and Adam&Eve DDB.
We were tasked with commemorating the airline's maiden international flight to Amsterdam. The brief, to depict a plane leaving Boston as if painted by Van Gogh. We only had a week.
Boston is known for its oil lamps, so we agreed that a play on Starry Night was an obvious choice. It helped that the painting was at The Met close by, so we took a company/school trip. Now for the technical challenge, Vincent is famously known for his three-dimensional flowing strokes created with a palette knife. To achieve this, we developed our own hybrid technique.
While short, and simple in scope, this project became the perfect example of our ability to creatively problem solve through the use of mixed media.
